Image Compressor
Reduce JPEG, PNG and WebP file size right in your browser, with a live quality preview.
Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Make images lighter for the web and email. Adjust quality, compare file sizes before and after, and download the compressed file. Processing is local; your images never leave your device.
How it works
The image is drawn onto a canvas and re-encoded as JPEG or WebP at the quality you select. Lower quality gives smaller files with more visible artefacts. For photos, a quality of 70 to 85 is usually a good balance. PNG is lossless, so convert to JPEG or WebP for larger savings.
Examples
- A photo at quality 80 is typically much smaller than the original with little visible difference.
- Screenshots with flat colours compress well as WebP.
Frequently asked questions
Is compression lossless?
JPEG and WebP compression here is lossy: you trade some detail for a smaller file.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
Why did my file get bigger?
Re-encoding a file that was already well compressed can increase its size. Try a lower quality or a different format.
